Gunther has been pushed to the top of WWE since day one. The Austrian Superstar has been a dominant force his entire career, and that did not change when he joined the largest wrestling company in the world. The current champion is now opening up on how Triple H’s help has pushed him forward.
The Ring General had been wrestling for fourteen years when he signed with World Wrestling Entertainment in January 2019. Gunther is now the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Previously, the star had set records with his previous NXT UK Championship and Intercontinental Championship reigns. WWE officials like Triple H and Shawn Michaels have been high-up on the former PWG World Champion since the beginning, which has allowed his push to stay as consistent as it has.
Gunther admitted to Metro UK that he has benefited from always having such a strong connection to the Chief Content Officer at various stages of his WWE career. He commented on having Triple H’s support and gave him major credit for his own success.
“He always supported me and saw something in me. In general, I think he is somebody that is very disciplined when it comes to his long term goals with certain people and sticking to them. I don’t know if I would be here without ever being more or less connected with Triple H in that sense,” Gunther said.
The Bull From Vienna continued and hailed The Game for the way he handled the talent. The 37-year-old compared Triple H to the head coach of a football team.
“At the end of the day, Triple H right now, he’s our matchmaker, he’s the head of creative. And what that role kinda is in our sport is like, he’s the head coach to what a football team would be,” Gunther said. [H/T – Metro UK]
The former WALTER added that he was grateful for the way Triple H runs the show because this allows him the freedom to be himself. While he has soared in WWE under Triple H, and essentially Vince McMahon early on, the Imperium leader isn’t sure his push would have been this strong if McMahon was still in charge.
World Wrestling Entertainment will return to Randy Orton’s hometown of St. Louis for the first RAW episode to air after Bad Blood. Monday’s episode is set to air at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
Three big matches have been confirmed for RAW, with more to be added likely during the Bad Blood post-show press conference. Below is the current lineup:
- World Heavyweight Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs. Sami Zayn
- Intercontinental Championship Match: Jey Uso (c) vs. Xavier Woods
- Good Ol’ Fashioned Donnybrook Match: Sheamus vs. Pete Dunne
As of one week ago, WrestleTix reported that WWE had 1,618 tickets available for RAW in St. Louis. There were 6,867 distributed tickets on a setup of 8,485. There’s no word yet on how many tickets have been sold in the last week, but RAW should be close to a sell-out, if not sold out already.
