It appears the Golden State Warriors have made a show of support for their California neighbors, the Los Angeles Lakers, in the 2024 NBA Draft.
As the team with the 52nd pick, the Golden State Warriors have the right to choose Bronny James, son of LeBron James, before the Los Angeles Lakers (who own the 55th pick).
It should be noted that the Warriors contacted the Lakers to trade for LeBron James in February of this year. Therefore, bringing Bronny James to the team will somewhat help recruit LeBron in the future.
According to the prestigious ESPN website, the Golden State Warriors seriously considered choosing Bronny James. But when it came time to make an official decision, Warriors technical director Mike Dunleavy decided to ignore LeBron’s son.
Writing more about this, ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne said: “The Golden State Warriors like Bronny’s defensive skillset and have listed this player’s name on the Draft Board.
Picking Bronny ahead of the Lakers could be a smart move, and it could even potentially lure LeBron James to the Warriors in the future as a free agent.
But ultimately, according to my sources, the Warriors decided to respect LeBron James’ wishes and dreams (of playing with his son), and therefore did not select Bronny in the 2024 NBA Draft.”
Ignoring Bronny James, the Golden State Warriors selected 2m13 center Quinten Post. Three picks later, the Los Angeles Lakers called Bronny’s name at the end of the 2024 NBA Draft, making a historic moment for the James family.
This is the first time the NBA has had a father and son pair playing at the same time, and even more impressively, in the same jersey. Sharing about this special event, Anthony Davis said his teammate LeBron James was very happy.
“Like the world to LeBron. No one has ever played in the same era as his son in the NBA. And they’re on the same team, so they get to play on the same court and wear the same jersey.
LeBron was really happy. He was so grateful and couldn’t hide his emotions when it became a reality, something that no one has ever done in history ,” Anthony Davis said.
Bronny James entered the NBA after his first and only year playing NCAA basketball at the University of Southern California (USC), where his son LeBron James suffered a cardiac arrest during a summer practice, resulting in him missing four months of practice and competition.
Upon his return, Bronny failed to show the potential that experts and fans expected. The 1m87 guard’s average stats were only 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 25 games.
Although prevented from entering the NBA early due to not being “ripe” enough to enter the professional path, Bronny James and his agent Rich Paul still decided to set foot in the NBA.
There will still be many questions surrounding Bronny James’ readiness, ability to contribute and performance in a Los Angeles Lakers shirt.
One thing is for sure, Bronny’s career path will be greatly supported by his father, LeBron James. And to achieve this, the Lakers will have to thank the Golden State Warriors for not calling Bronny’s name in the 2024 NBA Draft.
