Recently, history was made in WWE NXT when Oba Femi passed Wes Lee for the longest-reigning NXT North American Championship, which was held for 269 days.
However, Femi’s record-breaking reign would swiftly come to an end when the developmental brand entered the second week of its CW premiere.
On the Oct. 8th, 2024, episode of NXT, WWE fans were shocked when Femi, the youngest NXT North American Champion in history, dropped the title to Tony D’Angelo on a surprise roll-up.
This is the first match Femi has lost since he debuted in NXT.
Meanwhile, Oba Femi made his formal NXT debut on April 25, 2023, after first signing with WWE in 2021. He quickly went on to win the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament, leading to his record-breaking reign as NXT North American Champion.
Femi was also ranked No. 53 in the PWI 500 for 2024.

Femi has already established himself as a future main event talent with his incredible power, speed, and presentation. Now, the question is what the future holds for The Ruler.
It’s very easy to see Femi getting pushed to the main roster, where he can compete against the likes of Jey Uso, Bron Breakker, LA Knight, and Carmelo Anthony for mid-card titles.

It’s also possible that The Ruler could go for the NXT Championship, which has just been won by Trick Williams from Ethan Page, another talented NXT star who could make the jump to the main roster soon.
If that’s the case, Femi will have to wait in line as Page, Wes Lee, and Je’Von Evans are set to have a triple threat match to determine the No. 1 Contender for the belt.

That being said, it could be in Femi’s best interest to focus on winning back the North American Championship since everywhere else seems relatively crowded right now.
Femi and D’Angelo have already had two great matches. A third could be a fitting way to put an end to this feud since they currently have one win-a-piece.
No matter what happens, it will be exciting where either of these wrestlers goes in the future.
