A WWE Hall of Famer who remains a part of the backstage team today has been credited with creating one of the most legendary aspects of The Undertaker’s career.
Beginning with a victory over Jimmy Snuka in 1991, Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania would eventually gain notoriety in the wrestling world. With stars such as Jake Roberts, Sid and Ric Flair all losing to The Deadman on The Grandest Stage, The Streak became so prestigious that eventually it was as sought after as the World Championship match at WrestleMania.
While discussing Undertaker’s streak on the Something to Wrestle With podcast, Bruce Prichard revealed that Michael Hayes was the one who noticed that Undertaker had not lost at Mania and pushed for it to become a part of the event:
“The Streak kind of came up from Michael Hayes. You know Michael always had tidbits of information that Michael would kind of throw out [and] say, ‘Hey, you know The Undertaker’s undefeated at WrestleMania. Something we can do with that. There’s a story there.’ He would push that all the time until finally that streak had built up to being meaningful and hence The Streak.”
Along with his undefeated streak, Undertaker also became heavily associated with the Hell in a Cell match as he was a part of 14 of them over the course of his career. While The Undertaker has been involved in multiple Hell in a Cell classics, he also named an underestimated classic from the series.
