Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem receive wildcards to the 2024 US Open

This is very good news for Wawrinka and Thiem fans in particular and tennis fans around the world in general.

Two former US Open champions: Stanislas Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem have received wildcard tickets to attend this year’s tournament, as confirmed on the ATP homepage.

For Dominic Thiem personally, this ticket has a very special meaning because 2024 is the last season of his career. Since suffering a wrist injury a few years ago, the tennis player nicknamed “Prince of Clay” has never returned to his best form.

In 2024, Dominic Thiem almost “lost everywhere” with a record of 2-7 in tournaments on Tour, even against Challenger level players, ranked outside the top 100, Thiem also encountered countless difficulties.

The Austrian’s most recent match took place at the end of July, where he lost quickly to Thiago Tirante right on home soil at the ATP Kitzbuhel tournament.

In the last two Grand Slam tournaments: Roland Garros and Wimbledon, Thiem did not receive a wild card. With a low ranking, the 1993-born player had to compete in the qualifying round and both times he stopped early.

Meanwhile, Stanislas Wawrinka, despite being past his prime and getting older, has been playing quite regularly recently, with no intention of retiring. However, a series of unsatisfactory results have caused “Stan The Man” to fall out of the world’s top 100.

Both Wawrinka and Thiem were top one-handed backhanders at their peak, and both were Grand Slam champions during the era of the Big 3 (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer). The decision by the 2024 US Open Organizing Committee to award wildcards to Wawrinka and Thiem has received praise from tennis fans around the world.

In addition, the Organizing Committee of the final Grand Slam tournament of the year also granted wild cards to Christopher Eubanks, Zachary Svajda, Vietnamese-American Learner Tien, Matthew Forbes, Alexandre Muller and Tristan Schoolkate to enter the main draw. Meanwhile, Brandon Holt, Ethan Quinn, Nishesh Basavareddy, Kaylan Bigun, Eliot Spizzirri, Aidan Mayo, Bruno Kuzuhara, Michael Zheng and Jack Kennedy received wild cards to enter the qualifying round.
