He currently has 11,010 points, 3,000 more than Carlos Alcaraz, who is ranked world number 2. Jannik Sinner becomes the first Italian to do so in the open era, since the rankings were introduced in 1973.
The 23-year-old Italian is the 19th player to hold the season-long world No. 1 ranking, and the fourth active player to do so after Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner started 2024 with an impressive start to the year, winning the Australian Open and French Open. In doing so, he became only the third player in the Open Era to win both Grand Slams at the start of the year, after Guillermo Vilas in 1977.
