Bronny James is aiming to make his own name in the NBA.
But that’s going to be tough considering he’s the son of one of the best basketballers of all time – LeBron James.
The rookie was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft and has since made history by playing alongside his father in the league.
He will be hoping to make the name Bronny iconic as he looks to continue the James legacy.
Bronny’s real name is LeBron Raymone James Jr.
He’s named after his father but opts to go by Bronny.
According to Marca, it is because he wants to make his own story and avoid as much pressure as possible.
However, he may also go with that shorter name due to LeBron’s admission that he wished he never named his son after him because of the pressure that comes with it.
Speaking in 2018 when Bronny was just starting his basketball career, the NBA icon admitted: “I still regret giving my 14-year-old my name.”
LeBron then explained why he gave his son his name, saying: “When I was younger, I didn’t have a dad.
“So my whole thing was when I have a kid, not only is he gonna be a junior, I’m gonna do everything that this man didn’t do.
“They’re gonna experience things that I didn’t experience.
“The only thing I can do is give them the blueprint, and it’s up to them to take their own course whenever that time comes.”
Bronny overcame a life-threatening cardiac arrest last year to make his way to the NBA, signing a four-year contract with the Lakers in the summer.
It means he now has the chance to pave his own way in the league and follow in the footsteps of his legendary father.
The pair have been playing together in Los Angeles in pre-season and they will embark on a historic year in the NBA soon.
The pressure will be huge on Bronny as he dons ‘James Jr.’ on the back of his No.9 jersey.
But it will be interesting to see how the 20-year-old copes and if he can compete on the biggest stage of them all.
