Celebrating Wiggins’ return with Curry, Golden State Warriors continue to be undefeated after saying goodbye to Klay Thompson

The Golden State Warriors’ 2024 NBA Preseason friendly match streak is still going smoothly with 5 consecutive wins.

In his most recent appearance, Stephen Curry and his teammates defeated LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers with a score of 111-97 in Las Vegas on the morning of October 16, Vietnam time.

Welcoming the return of Andrew Wiggins after nearly a month of health problems, coach Steve Kerr immediately put the Canadian player in the starting lineup alongside Stephen Curry, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Jonathan Kuminga and Draymond Green.

The lack of practice and competition was evident when Wiggins only had 2 points in the first two rounds. But in the third round, the Canadian player regained his form. He worked hard on defense to lift his spirits, then found the finishing touch on offense.

From there Andrew Wiggins finished the game with 11 points in 20 minutes, shooting 5-5 FT and having 3-9 FG.

Also experiencing similar feelings to Wiggins were Stephen Curry (scored 16 points but only shot 6-18 FG, 3-11 3PT) and Buddy Hield (10 PTS, 4-13 FG, 2-9 3PT).

Making up for the “Splash Buddies” duo was the steady contribution of the Warriors’ forwards. Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, and Kyle Anderson all scored over 10 points.

Gary Payton II added 10 points, 5 rebounds with 100% FG. Reserve guard Moses Moody led the way with 21 points and 2 assists, reaching 7-14 FG in 19 minutes of play.

Stephen Curry and Buddy Hield didn’t have the best finishing touch in this game, shooting a total of only 10-31 FG and 5-20 3PT.

On the Los Angeles Lakers side, Anthony Davis scored 24 points in 26 minutes, bombarding the entire Warriors defense with 10-14 FGs before leaving the field early to “keep his feet”.

Austin Reaves (13 PTS), Rui Hachimura (15 PTS, 9 rebounds) and young shooter Dalton Knetch (19 points, 5-13 3PT) were the two outstanding scorers for the Lakers.

No other player scored more than 6 points, including LeBron James even though he was on the field for 23 minutes (6 points, 2 assists, 2 steals but only 3-9 FG).

This result extends the Golden State Warriors’ unbeaten streak in the preseason to five games. Despite parting ways with Klay Thompson, the Warriors surprisingly become one of the few teams that have not known a loss in the preseason friendly period.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers continued their poor preseason streak with just one win in four preseason games. The two teams will play another preseason game at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 19.
