Embiid's new deal concludes a heavy-spending offseason for the Sixers, who committed $550m in new money. All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey also received a new $204m extension, while Paul George was also signed to a four-year deal worth $212m.

Philadelphia also added free-agent forward Caleb Martin, guard Eric Gordon and center Andre Drummond to its ranks, while also re-signing guards Kelly Oubre and Kyle Lowry. As well as remaining the face of his franchise, Embiid also enjoyed success with Team USA at the Olympic Games over the summer.

Alongside a host of superstar teammates, the Cameroonian-American star helped USA beat hosts France in the gold-medal game over the summer; recording four points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in his 11-minute final appearance.
