LeBron James and Bronny James are the first father-son duo to ever play on the same NBA team, making their season debut for the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The first ever father-son duo in MLB history, Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr., were on hand to greet them before the game:
The James’ are actually the fourth father-son duo to appear in a professional game together in North American professional sports, as hockey legend Gordie Howe played with sons Mark and Marty for both the Houston Aeros of the World Hockey Association and the NHL’s Hartford Whalers.
Tim Raines and Tim Raines Jr. also played together for the Baltimore Orioles in 2001.
As for the Griffeys taking in the first regular season game for the James’ duo, LeBron spoke about what it meant having them in attendance while speaking to reporters earlier on Tuesday:
“To be here today and know that those guys will be in attendance tonight when me and Bronny are on the same team, it’s a pretty cool moment in the history of sports,” he said.
