“Dirty” Dominik Mysterio believes he is ready to face Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. Dom’s cockiness comes from having Rhea Ripley whisper sweet nothings in his ear for two years, before he kicked her to the curb to be straddled, stroked, and slobbered on by Liv Morgan.
Pulling off the mullet and mustache combo hasn’t done anything to dampen Dom’s demeanor either. He now proudly tucks his “Latino Cheat” t-shirts into his busy pants.
WWE Raw GM Adam Pearce doesn’t share the same view of Dominik Mysterio as Dominik Mysterio. Pearce laughed uncontrollably when Carlito requested he book the Gunther vs. Mysterio title bout during the October 21, 2024 episode of WWE Raw.
Instead, Pearce has booked Dom into a match with a mystery former World champion for next week’s WWE Raw.
Here, we take a look at who is likely to face Dom.
Dominik Mysterio: Who He Isn’t Facing
There’s obviously the option of a WWE SmackDown or WWE NXT superstar taking the spot. But as Pearce is so involved in the selection process, it’s likely the proud WWE Raw GM will hire from within.
There are ten active former World champions on the WWE Raw roster. Three of these are booked for action already on WWE Raw so they are out of contention.
Sheamus faces Ludwig Kaiser. While fellow former World champs Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston are tied up in the triple threat no.1 contenders match for the World Tag Team Championship.
The Miz can’t face Dom because he’s stuck between a rock and a hard pace. By that we mean stuck between the terrifying Wyatt Sicks – who have targetted him because of his betrayal of R-Truth – and the intimidating The Final Testament. Karrion Kross thinks The Miz owes them one because Paul Ellering took an Uncle Howdy mandible claw for him last week.
CM Punk returning to WWE to slap Dom around seems unlikely. Drew McIntyre is still feeling the effects of his Hell in a Cell match with CM Punk, so probably wouldn’t travel to Hersey, PA to please Pearce. But both men might want a fresh start after their epic trilogy and there’s not much fresher than Dominik Mysterio.
There’s obviously always the chance of a surprise return. Kane would make sense as it’s the 10th anniversary of his See No Evil 2 slasher movie. But he’d have to take a break from flirting with Donald Trump to do that so we can put him in ‘ain’t happening’ pile.
Pennsylvania hasn’t bred many former WWE World champions. Kurt Angle would be the only hope of a local hero returning in Hersey.
Who Will Face Dominik Mysterio?
The most likely option is Braun Strowman. A Universal Championship run makes him valid, the crowd would pop for him and he could beat the living daylights out of Dom.
Damian Priest would love a chance to get his hands on Dom. The former “El Campeón” is also eyeing a shot at Gunther’s World Heavyweight Championship. Priest is therefore a very likely candidate to humiliate Dom.
Priest lost the title to Gunther when Finn Bàlor stabbed him in the back. Bàlor seemed to take a good look at Dom’s back last week while unimpressed to hear of Dom’s opportunity. So the inaugural Universal Champion could be looking to betray another Judgement Day brethren.
Finally, that leaves just Seth Rollins as a former World Heavyweight Champion who might take a shot at Dom. Pearce accused Rollins of having ring rust a few weeks ago, so “The Visionary” might see Dom as a perfect chance to shake this off.
Rollins – who has competed in just six matches in 2024 – is set to return to action against the seemingly unstoppable “Big” Bronson Reed at WWE Crown Jewel next month.
Oh one last thing. Jinder Mahal. Don’t forget about him.
