Former WWE Champion Calls Final Booking ‘A Spit in the Face’

Bobby Lashley is one of the most exciting and powerful WWE Superstars in history.

A former amateur wrestler and Army sergeant, Lashley quickly proved his professional wrestling mettle by going on an undefeated streak in WWE and becoming a two-time ECW Champion.

Lashley would go on to have a memorable career in multiple independent promotions around the world and become a main fixture of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), eventually winning the TNA World Heavyweight Championship four times.

Lashley came back to WWE in 2018, forming an iconic stable with MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander called The Hurt Business. Alongside this team, he would win the WWE Championship twice.

Despite returning with a bang and becoming one of the most dominant stars on the roster, Lashley quietly let his contract expire this past year. And it seems that he’s still not happy about it.

During a recent virtual signing with K&S WrestleFest, former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley opened up about his frustrations toward the end of his most recent run with WWE.

“No. I think it was kind of a spit in the face towards the end (of The Hurt Business),” Lashley said. “We never was in front of a live crowd. During the pandemic, a lot of guys kind of sat back home and, ‘I don’t wanna do it. I’m not gonna do that,’ and it was us that were saying, ‘It’s work, so we’re going’ and we did everything.”

“We were on half the show most of the time and we were doing everything that a lot of people wouldn’t do, and then we came out of the pandemic, then all of these people started resurfacing. ‘Oh, I’m ready to work, I’m ready to work.'”

“But what about the guys that were putting the time in-in this ‘dangerous time’ that we were having? And we got kind of overlooked and I think that was kind of a little bit of a spit in the face. I think we could have come back and we could have done some big things together.” (h/t POST Wrestling)

While it’s sad to have seen Lashley’s WWE career come to an end like this, his career history shows that he is more than likely going to return with a roar instead of a whimper.

Already, MVP and Shelton Benjamin have appeared in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), prompting many fans and experts to speculate that Lashley will make his debut soon. And won’t we be lucky if he does?
