‘You Don’t Replace Steph Curry’ — Warriors’ $5.8M Wing Speaks Out on 4x MVP’s Injury

Warriors’ $5.8 million wing, Moses Moody, is aware of the impact Steph Curry’s injury absence can have on the team after he went down with an ankle ailment during Sunday’s 112-104 loss to the Clippers. He rolled on his left ankle with just under three minutes left in the third quarter and tweaked it immediately after his return to the court.

Curry was helped on his way back to the locker room by the team’s staff and GM Mike Dunleavy as he limped off the court. His potential multi-week absence could leave a glaring hole in the Warriors, but Moody thinks there is a way to ride this stretch out.

“I mean, you don’t replace Steph Curry, you know. But we do have a deep team, so that’s what the numbers are for, just have to be able to put on,” Moody said.

“Everybody has to take on a little bit of what he does and hopefully we can amount to close to it.”

Moses Moody referred to the Warriors’ deep roster this season. They have 12 players, including Steph Curry, that have the potential to be in the top-eight or 10-lineup as Steve Kerr starts to trim the rotation.

With Curry out, that allows all players to show what they can provide and make a compelling case to keep hold of their respective places in the rotation. Moody is among those players, too. He has played under 20 minutes in each of the first three games, so that could change for the young wing with Curry sidelined.

The Warriors dropped their first game of the season after a 2-0 start. They were down 10 when Steph Curry left the contest injured early in the fourth quarter. However, led by Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors nearly overturned the result in the clutch.

He scored 11 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter, shooting 4 of 5 and 2 of 3 from deep. The Warriors came within one point of the Clippers’ lead with 3:47 left. However, LA kept its composure and restored a significant lead to close the game.

Nevertheless, the Warriors’ promising effort without Steph Curry in crunch time is a good sign for them as they prepare to play without him for multiple games. Curry may have suffered a Grade I or Grade II sprain, and that could keep him out for multiple weeks. Wiggins will have a crucial role to play, along with Buddy Hield and Jonathan Kuminga, without Curry.
