Hollywood parties are almost always a source of controversy, especially given recent events. In the midst of this, Lakers superstar LeBron James has openly linked himself to a legendary Hollywood party story from the 1980s.
Star comedian Damon Wayans Jr., the son of veteran actor-writer Damon Wayans, had an interesting story from the 1980s involving Emmanuel Lewis. Speaking in the latest episode of The Lamorning After Podcast, Wayans rolled the clock back to the 1980s with a disclaimer. “Eddie Murphy used to have yacht parties. Not freak-offs. This is before baby oil, like this is like the 80s.”
Well, we are truly into the story. Wayans Jr. spoke about how he once harassed the retired actor Emmanuel Lewis during the yacht party as a kid. The Webster fame actor was known for his short stature but undeniably found a place in Americans’ hearts with his wholesome performances. However, when Wayans Jr. encountered Lewis for the first time, he had a tough time. Wayans Jr. added, “Me as a baby, I’m looking at this dude, I’m just like bro who gave this n****a suit…. I keep looking at him and like he comes over and he’s like playing with my cheeks or whatever I’m like I start playing with his cheeks, sizing him up.”
The Lamorning After Podcast added this specific snippet on their X handle. And LeBron James reacting to the entire segment, reposted the video with a flurry of laughing emojis. To sum it up, Wayans Jr. added, “It’s basically like I was just harassing him the whole time my dad said I was following him everywhere.”
Eddie Murphy and LeBron James’ connection
Eddie Murphy is undoubtedly a cultural icon in the Hollywood show business. The 63-year-old icon shaped the way Americans looked at comedy in the early 80s and 90s with his movies. On the other hand, LeBron James came into the league to fill the void that Michael Jordan had and became an icon for the ages to come. So, these two superstars are meant to link up, given their achievements in their fields.
Notably, this duo shared a stage in 2021 at the NAACP Image Awards where King James won President’s Award for his public service achievements. Speaking about the award, he said, “This award is so much more than myself… I’m here receiving it, but this dives into everything that I’m a part of.” And Eddie Murphy won the NAACP HoF award.
And, Murphy had his own humourous way of delivering the acceptance speech, but this time, he kept it formal, saying, “I’ve been making movies for 40 years now … 40 years. This is the perfect thing to commemorate that and be brought into the hall of fame… Thank you very much. I’m very moved.” Do you know any special LeBron James-Eddie Murphy moments?
