Jannik Sinner names the two shots Carlos Alcaraz has which are much better than what he can do

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz firmly cemented their status at the next major players of this generation.

In a fitting moment, Jannik Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic for the second time in a week, while Carlos Alcaraz made light work on the retiring Rafael Nadal.

If there was need of confirmation, we certainly got it at the inaugural Six Kings Slam as the up-and-comers defeated two of the greatest players of the last two decades.

The Italian will finish the year as world number one thanks to seven titles this year so far, including his first two Grand Slams.

Alcaraz similarly clinched his maiden crown at Roland Garros, before a successful defense of his Wimbledon title against Djokovic.

With the Spaniard having beaten Sinner three times on the ATP tour this year, the world number one identified the two shots Alcaraz has that currently separates them.

The Italian recently got a bit of revenge against Alcaraz in Saudi Arabia, recovering from a set down to clinch the title and over six million dollars in prize money – not bad for three days work!

With more titles in the crosshairs for Sinner including the Paris Masters, the ATP finals, and the Davis Cup, the number one has admitted there is still room for improvement.

Sinner outlined two shots Alcaraz currently deploys that he both admires, and suggests represents a gulf in their abilities.

In an overview, he stated: “Alcaraz and I are two very different players. I keep the pace very high, I’m mentally strong. He is physically strong and tennis-wise he has something more at the moment. He plays slice and volleys better,” Sinner admitted. “But for me it’s positive. It means I have room to improve.”

Emphasising the Spaniard’s impressive all-court game, he continued: “Carlos is outstanding on the court… drop shots, passing shots, lobs, great vollies. I don’t know if I’ll ever be like that. As a tennis player I’m solid and when needed I can hit the winner. We both bring out the best in the important points.”

With Spanish great Nadal approaching retirement in November, Sinner compared Alcaraz to his idol.

“Carlos is similar to Nadal, he presses from the first point and runs a lot. He knows how to turn on the crowd. I am calmer, colder, but I can get hot too. Sometimes it’s good to get nervous and yell at the team, to step out of the box for a moment and then get back into it. You can do it if you have people you trust around you.”

It feels obvious to say after this year, but tennis looks to be in safe hands.

The pair are poised to engage in one of tennis’s most exciting rivalries for years to come.

Both players bring incredible power, speed, and resilience, with Alcaraz’s agility and shot-making skills perfectly contrasting with Sinner’s precision and relentless baseline play.

They have already faced off in a series of memorable matches, each time pushing each other to new, astonishing heights.

As they continue to develop and refine their games, this rivalry promises to shape the future of men’s tennis.
