Dream Come True? Current WWE Champion Hopes for AJ Lee’s Return After a Decade for Major Match at Upcoming PLE!

AJ Lee left WWE nearly a decade ago and retired from in-ring competition. However, a current WWE champion dreams of seeing the 37-year-old return for a mixed tag team match at SummerSlam next year.

Lee’s husband, CM Punk, returned to the Stamford-based company after almost a decade last year at Survivor Series. Since then, fans and experts have been speculating about a potential comeback of the former Divas Champion.

Several superstars, including Bayley and Liv Morgan, recently urged The Black Widow to come out of retirement. In a recent interview with The Schmo, Morgan expressed her desire to see Lee return and team with Punk against her and her on-screen boyfriend Dominik Mysterio in a Mixed Tag Team Match.

The Women’s World Champion stated that she and Lee fighting in their home state of New Jersey at SummerSlam 2025 would be ideal. Meanwhile, she pointed out that Dirty Dom dislikes Punk:

“I hear that SummerSlam is in New Jersey next year, which is where I’m from. So, my dream scenario would be me and Daddy Dom vs. CM Punk and AJ Lee, a returning AJ Lee. Two Jersey girls just sticking it out. I know Daddy Dom doesn’t like CM Punk and so I think that would be an ideal scenario. Do you think that would be cool? Cuz I think that would be cool. I know it sounds kinda crazy but I think It’d be really cool,” she said. [7:12 – 7:39]

WWE analyst Peter Rosenberg discussed AJ Lee’s potential return to the Stamford-based company on his Cheap Heat podcast. He claimed the promotion would immediately re-sign the former Divas Champion if the latter showed interest in taking that step.

Meanwhile, Rosenberg pointed out that the 37-year-old would have to undergo a character change upon her potential comeback:

“The game has changed. If AJ comes back and is going to be seen as a viable threat to all of these superstars, she cannot be the AJ Lee of the Divas Championship era. She would have to be the AJ Lee of the Women’s Revolution, of this era. And I think, frankly, getting to see her in that context, see her go for that, would be really cool,” he said.

In addition to Morgan, NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez has also expressed interest in facing AJ Lee. The 22-year-old disclosed she wants to face the former Divas Champion at WrestleMania. It would be interesting to see if Lee would ever return to the WWE ring.
