Warriors ‘Bracing’ For Steph Curry to Miss Time Due to Ankle Injury

The Golden State Warriors may be without star point guard Steph Curry for some time after he suffered an injury to his ankle. He has dealt with ankle issues throughout his career so the team will likely play things cautiously with him throughout the recovery period.

Curry left early in the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Clippers, with the injury being called “mild” by Golden State. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke about the injury and his confidence level without Curry on the floor.

“I feel more comfortable that we can withstand an absence offensively without Steph because of [our] depth,” Kerr told ESPN.

Golden State added multiple pieces to the roster this offseason after All-Star guard Klay Thompson departed in free agency. One of which is shooting guard Buddy Hield, who has been lighting things up on the floor early on.

Hield has been everything that the Warriors could have hoped for and more. Through three games, he is averaging 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists.

He is also shooting 52.0 percent from beyond the 3-point line as well. With Curry likely out for at least a few games, Hield may need to step up as the primary scorer for this Warriors team.

“We’ve just got to stick together,” Buddy Hield told ESPN about the possibility of playing without Curry. “It’ll be a great challenge.”

Hield also has the help of players like Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins can also up his scoring approach and he just dropped 29 points in the loss to the Clippers.

Kerr was complimentary of his forward, saying that he could get the ball more with Curry out.

“Wiggs is off to a great start and had a great night,” Kerr said. “He’s an obvious candidate to get the ball more. But we’ve got a deep team. We’ve got a lot of guys who can play. We will be ready.”

Losing Curry is never ideal for the Warriors as he is the engine that makes them go. However, with the depth that the franchise has accumulated over the offseason, they may be able to survive without him.

The hope is that Curry won’t have to miss too many games and he can get back onto the court as soon as possible. But if not, Golden State believes they can weather any storm that comes their way.
