Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James hasn’t played since the team’s season opener last week against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he’s reportedly on the verge of being given the chance to develop his game.
During this week’s episode of Buha’s Block, The Athletic’s Jovan Buha reported that the Lakers are “likely” to send Bronny to the G League following Wednesday’s road matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Buha explained that the team wants the 20-year-old to get the experience of an NBA road trip and also share a moment with his legendary father LeBron James in their hometown of Cleveland.
“I think that’s a valuable experience for Bronny just to observe up-close like, ‘This is what an NBA road trip’s like, this is what it’s like to kind of be in the bunker with my teammates.’ And then he afterward will most likely be going directly to the G League and playing in that opener on November 9th,” Buha said around the 36:25 mark.
A second-round pick in the 2024 NBA draft, Bronny made history in his first NBA appearance alongside LeBron as the first father-son duo to play in a game together. Unfortunately, the youngster missed both his shots that night and only grabbed one rebound in three minutes of action.
Buha added that the South Bay Lakers already started their training camp, but that won’t hinder Bronny from getting the chance to see more reps than he would on the main roster.
“He’s gonna miss training camp, but I think in a way for him, having not experienced this yet, this could be a very valuable experience for him,” Buha said.
