Serbia Celebrates Olympic Gold Winner Novak Djokovic with a Hero’s Welcome

More than 50,000 Serbians took to the streets to welcome tennis player Novak Djokovic and other athletes who brought glory to the country after the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Just one day after the 2024 Paris Olympics officially ended, Serbia held a big event to celebrate the success of the athletes who won medals at the event taking place in France.

The Serbian sports delegation had a quite successful Olympics when they won 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal, ranking 27th overall.

The athletes who brought home gold medals were Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec in shooting, the men’s water polo team and most notably Novak Djokovic in tennis.

The 37-year-old tennis player defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s singles final to win his first Olympic gold medal. Djokovic won a dramatic 7-6, 7-6 victory over the Spaniard to add another gold medal to his collection of 24 Grand Slam titles.

This victory is not only an achievement for Djokovic, but also a source of pride for Serbia.

Tens of thousands of people in the capital Belgrade (Serbia) created a festive atmosphere at the ceremony to celebrate the athletes returning from the 2024 Olympics.

Before stepping onto the balcony of the parliament building, the athletes, coaches and the president of the Serbian Olympic Committee, Bozidar Maljkovic, attended a reception at the presidential palace.

“The entire country of 7 million people feels immense pride and joy as we climb to the top where nothing seems out of reach… You gave us strength, and thank you for that,” Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told the medalists in his speech.
