4 Things We Know About P. Diddy’s Past With WWE

Sean John Combs, also known to the music world as P. Diddy, has been in a lot of trouble lately, as a grand jury recently ordered his arrest over sexual trafficking. Like many other popular music artists and producers, WWE has also worked with Diddy in the past.

10 Rappers Who Made An Appearance In WWE

Wrestling and hip hop have quite a connection, and over the years WWE has capitalized on opportunities to feature such artists on their programming.

Many fans may not know about this since it’s been a long time since Diddy last showed up at a WWE event. Here’s everything wrestling fans should know about Diddy’s past with WWE.

His Musical Performance At WrestleMania 29 Upset Cody Rhodes

WrestleMania 29 Took Place In 2013

  • “Coming Home” by Diddy – Dirty Money featuring Skylar Grey was one of the songs he performed.
  • His performance lasted around 7 minutes, which Cody Rhodes thinks could’ve been used for another match.
  • Cody Rhodes was not part of WrestleMania 29.

There have been lots of wrestlers who struggle to get any screen time. Sometimes the promotion has to cut time from their match to allow one of their top stars a couple of extra minutes for their special entrance. Other times, there are promos and other segments that unfortunately change things for others who were also scheduled on the show.

Back at WrestleMania 29, WWE brought Diddy for a musical performance. “Coming Home” by Diddy – Dirty Money feat. Skylar Grey was one of the theme songs for the show, which Diddy also performed. Cody Rhodes was supposed to have a tag team match involving Damian Sandow and The Bella Twins, but he believes the match was axed due to time constraints. He didn’t like Diddy’s appearance because WWE could’ve given him his match instead.

Interacted With Stars Like Mick Foley & The New Day

  • Diddy created Bad Boy Entertainment in 1993.
  • To celebrate their 20th anniversary, the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour was announced for 2013.
  • The tour generated revenue of over $100 million.

He also made a Raw appearance as a guest star and had a segment with Mick Foley and The New Day. That was back in August 2016, and Puff Daddy was doing a Bad Boy 20-Year Family Reunion Tour which was set to begin on August 25 – a few weeks after his appearance on Raw. He talked about WWE always treating him like family and offered a few front-row tickets to the concert to Mick Foley. The New Day also made an appearance later, and Diddy interacted with them a bit before walking off.

Diddy Became The Sound Curator For WWE 2K17

Chose 13 Songs For The Game

  • WWE 2K17 was released on October 11, 2016.
  • Brock Lesnar was featured on the cover of the game.
  • WWE 2K17 was the 4th game in the 2K series.

Diddy was also the sound curator for WWE 2K17. He created a list of 13 songs, which were used in the game. Diddy called himself a “huge WWE fan” and his collection featured songs like “This Time” by Axwell Λ Ingrosso,Ride” by Twenty-One Pilots, and one of his own songs “Bad Boy For Life” featuring Black Rob & Mark Curry. During a press release about the same, Diddy said this:

“I am a huge WWE fan. I love the intensity and the competition and I wanted fans to feel that energy in the soundtrack for WWE 2K17. While prepping for the upcoming Bad Boy 20-Year Family Reunion Tour, I’ve been thinking a lot about the past and the artists that inspired me. I mixed some of my favorites with some of the best new acts in the game today to create something really special.” (H/T WWE.com )

Snoop Dogg Guest Hosted The October 19, 2009 Edition Of Raw

  • Wrestling fans didn’t like the celebrity guest host era of Raw.
  • The first celebrity guest host was Batista, and while he was a wrestler, there were many celebrity guest hosts who were never involved in the wrestling business or were even a fan of it.
  • Snoop Dogg’s appearance made Diddy hit WWE up for a collaboration.

Like a lot of people, Diddy also grew up watching wrestling. In his own words, the biggest wrestling moment for him was Hulk Hogan slamming Andre The Giant at WrestleMania 3 for the WWE Heavyweight Championship. Back in 2009, WWE started bringing celebrity guest hosts every week on Raw, and one of the stars they brought in was Snoop Dogg, another well-known figure in the hip-hop industry.

Diddy saw that and contacted WWE, and that’s how these two parties first met.

“I want to tell you the truth, I called [WWE] after I saw Snoop Dogg. I had to put my ego down and make sure that [WWE] had my information because I did not understand why I hadn’t been called yet. And that really did happen. I’m not just saying that. I called Neil [Lawi, senior vice president and general manager of WWE Music Group] and was like, ‘Yo, Neil, what’s up?'” (H/T ESPN.com )

He then appeared during the 2010 Tribute to the Troops, where he performed I’ll Be Missing You.
