Roger Federer Remembers His Unforgettable First Kiss with His Older Wife: ‘She Calls Me Her ‘Little Boy

Roger Federer and his wife Mirka have been the most notable couple in tennis for over two decades. Federer himself once admitted that his wife is the most important person on his journey to success. “When I met her, I had no titles. Now I have 88 titles. She has been with me throughout that journey,” the Swiss tennis legend shared.

Federer and his wife’s 24-year journey together has had many memorable milestones. And one of the most special memories came when the couple first met and had their first kiss.

Federer and his wife Mirka have been together for more than two decades.

According to British media, his wife Mirka first met Federer in early 2000. At that time, both were on the Swiss tennis team. But Mirka was the “senior” as she was 3 years older than Federer.

At that time, Mirka was invited by the coaches to the field to watch Federer – who had created a big buzz at the youth level. However, Mirka did not have a very good impression.

“I played for a tennis club in Switzerland and everyone said to her, ‘Come and see this kid. He’s very talented, the future of tennis.’ But when she got there, the first thing she saw was me playing tennis and screaming. She said (sarcastically), ‘That’s cool, he looks cool. But what’s wrong with him?'” Federer recalled.

It was not until they attended the 2000 Olympics that they first talked. At this time, Mirka understood Federer better and found him much more mature than his real age. Feelings blossomed and the two quickly fell in love – a love that originated right from the coaching community.

On the last day before the team left the camp, Federer and his wife shared their first kiss. However, Mirka’s humorous comment afterwards still makes the tennis legend remember the moment to this day.

“We spent two weeks together, and that’s how we got to know each other. The last day before we left, we had our first kiss,” Federer recalled. “After that kiss, she said, ‘You’re so young.’ I said, ‘You’re almost 18 and a half years old.’ You know I had to try to add the half year part to sound older. She was still like, ‘You’re a kid.'”

The couple officially dated after the 2000 Olympics and have been together ever since. Federer himself once had the opportunity to play with Mirka. But Mirka later suffered a leg injury and had to retire early. She stepped back, becoming the support for Federer to move forward.
