Tying down coach Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors prepare for “last dance” with Stephen Curry?

After months of negotiations and negotiations, coach Steve Kerr has finally reached an agreement to extend his contract with the Golden State Warriors. The American captain has agreed to stay at the Chase Center for another 2 years with a total contract value of 35 million dollars.

The contract extension comes in Steve Kerr’s 10th year at the helm of the Golden State Warriors, a period in which he has won four championships in seven appearances in the finals.

ESPN reported that this contract makes Steve Kerr the highest-paid head coach in NBA history. On the Warriors’ payroll next season, he will be paid the fifth highest salary on the team, behind Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Chris Paul and Stephen Curry.

Will this be the last dance for coach Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors?

A notable point in the Golden State Warriors’ contract extension with Steve Kerr is the 2-year term. Thus, he will be “tied down” until the end of the 2025-26 season.

This is a special time because after the 2025-26 season ends, not only will coach Steve Kerr’s contract expire, but Stephen Curry can become a free agent, ending his current 4-year contract worth 215 million USD.

Thus, the 2-year extension is intended to place Steve Kerr’s journey parallel to the rest of “head chef” Curry’s contract.

Stephen Curry and coach Steve Kerr will both have contracts expiring at the end of the 2025-26 season.

When his current contract expires in the summer of 2026, Stephen Curry will turn 38 and will likely be entering the twilight of his career. Another name that could become a free agent in the summer of 2026 is Draymond Green, the spiritual leader of the Warriors.

So the next 2 years will be the brightest time for Golden State to compete for the championship, especially when the framework of Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins (possibly Klay Thompson) is ready to commit to the Warriors.

And to lead this team in the hope of reaching the championship, coach Steve Kerr is definitely the best choice.

Coach Steve Kerr has won 9 NBA championships, including 4 times as head coach with the Golden State Warriors.

Temporarily putting aside this year’s season with the team’s unstable performance, the Golden State Warriors will enter 2 years of “all-in” for the goal of winning the NBA championship including the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons.

It would not be wrong to call this the “last dance” of coach Steve Kerr and his favorite student Stephen Curry, as well as the last chance for the Warriors empire to make a splash in the NBA before their core enters the final stage of their careers.
