Alcaraz and Sinner have met thrice at Grand Slam level. The Spaniard won 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-7 (0), 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the five-set epic at the 2022 US Open. However, Sinner may have changed the course of events with just one shot. He failed to make a cross-court backhand off a backhand return from Alcaraz, giving up a 5-4 lead and serving to end the match.

Eventually, the phenomenal youngster from Spain emerged victorious, becoming the youngest World No. 1 in the history of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.

The next time they met at a Grand Slam was in the same year at Wimbledon’s Round of 16, where the Italian took his revenge for the US Open loss. The teenager defeated Alcaraz 1-6, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), 3-6 on Centre Court.

He encountered a match point in the third set tie-break after losing the first two sets somewhat handily. By taking the third set, Alcaraz was able to survive in the match. However, he faltered once more in the fourth. Sinner was defeated by eventual winner Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the tournament that year.

In the French Open 2024, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in a grueling four-hour, nine-minute semifinal battle. The third seed Alcaraz overcame a set and an early service break deficit to triumph over the second-seeded Italian, 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. With this hard-fought victory, Alcaraz reached his first Roland-Garros final and third major championship match overall.
