How many times have the Boston Celtics won the NBA championship?
By defeating the Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals, the Celtics will have a total of 18 NBA championships. They officially surpassed the Lakers in this achievement (the Lakers have 17 championships).
Much of Boston’s success can be traced back to the time they were coached by either Bill Russell or Larry Bird. Russell won 11 championships during his time in Boston, while Bird won three.
Russell won the NBA title before the Finals MVP award was created. Today, the prestigious individual award is named after him.
