After Mercedes Moné became a double champion at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, her post-match celebration was short-lived as Britt Baker made her return to All Elite Wrestling.

Baker had been away for nearly a year and she later revealed that she dealt with T.A.A. (Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm). The program between Moné and Baker culminated in August at All In where Moné bested Baker to retain the TBS Championship.

While Baker was speaking to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, she stated that it was surreal for her to work with Mercedes and she’s grateful to have had the opportunity.

I really liked the promo that Mercedes (Moné) and I had, the contract signing. Where was that? Wales? Cardiff? Yeah. I really liked that. First off, the crowd, insane, nuclear. We got to kick off the show but also, there’s a lot of truth to it. When I say Mercedes is one of my massive inspirations and a reason why I wrestle today, I mean that. I’m such a fan of her. It was surreal to me to get to work with her on such a huge platform. It’s still surreal to me and I’m super grateful that she also gave me that opportunity, that like, hey, that’s Britt Baker. I’m gonna work with her. If you would have told me that back in 2015 when I started wrestling, I would have been like, pshh, Mercedes knows who I am? What? It’s crazy so, it’s just evolution… That’s one of my favorite promos because I got to say a lot of my truth to Mercedes’ face. ‘You walked so girls like me could run.’ You can feel that. You know when a wrestler means what they’re saying, you know when there’s a passion that comes from that place too, and sometimes, we’re so good at promos that we can bamboozle you all into thinking that some of the mean and nasty sh*t is real too and that, I love that just as much. So I love all my heel promos just as much as the baby — more than the babyface ones.

Baker has not been on AEW programming since the aforementioned loss. She’ll be back in action at the Dynamite Five Year Anniversary show on 10/2 in her hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She shared her thoughts about her opponent that night, Serena Deeb.

I think Serena (Deeb) is a perfect example of someone who bet on herself. I mean, Serena was a coach at the Performance Center and now, she has the luxury of wrestling Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. in Pittsburgh this week. But no, in all seriousness, I think Serena’s one of the best technical wrestlers in the game and crazy to think that we wouldn’t have seen her on TV wrestling most likely if she wouldn’t have bet on herself so, I think that’s definitely a good example.
