LeBron James reveals his goal before the new season: No more dreams of winning the NBA championship?

LeBron James is one of the most beloved players in the NBA. But at the same time, he is also one of the most criticized.

Some basketball fans believe that LeBron no longer really wants to compete at a high level, but instead tries to “farm for stats” to achieve personal achievements before retiring from his career.

James himself disagrees with this view as he always puts the championship goal first. Last season, although he could not advance deep in the Playoffs, LeBron and the Los Angeles Lakers had a chance to lift the trophy when they won the NBA In-Season Tournament in December.

So, before the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season is about to begin, what goals does the 39-year-old basketball superstar set for himself and his team? In an interview with Rolling Stone, LeBron James surprisingly stopped mentioning the championship:

“Next season? It’s simple, enjoy every moment as much as possible. While I do everything in my power to help the team win, I want to enjoy the special moments that come my way, like playing alongside my son.”

Speaking more about his 22nd career season about to begin, tying Vince Carter’s NBA record, LeBron James added more about what drives and motivates him:

“I think I can still play, make positive highlights and contribute to the overall success of the club, trying to win as many titles as possible. Now it is not just about the championships, for me it is about the legacy to inspire the next generation, and at the same time to motivate myself.

I am very grateful for the achievements, records and titles I have had in my career. But I think there is still room for development, towards new things both on and off the field.”

Is LeBron James hinting that he doesn’t take winning championships as seriously as he used to?

Turning 40 later this year, LeBron James is certainly in the final years of one of the most successful NBA careers ever. It’s hard to blame the “king” for wanting to relax a little, enjoy the moment and have fun while playing rather than doing everything he can to compete for the gold trophy.

But once on the court, LeBron always aims to win. And knowing that his time is running out, he will definitely strive to compete for another championship ring before saying goodbye to his playing career.
