All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has a large collection of wrestlers sporting unique gimmicks that have captured the attention of professional wrestling fans around the world.
This includes stars like Orange Cassidy, Danhausen, “Timeless” Toni Storm, and Abadon.
Unfortunately, a wrestler sporting one of AEW’s most popular gimmicks has been hospitalized.
According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, AEW superstar Austin Matelson, known by his ring name Killswitch/Luchasaurus, was found collapsed by his fiancée on Friday, Sept. 27.
Matelson was rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs. He has been on oxygen ever since and “was told to expect a recovery of over a month.”
Everyone here at Newsweek Sports wishes Matelson the best as he recovers.
Matelson began his professional wrestling career on a developmental contract with WWE, teaming with Corey Graves in Florida Championship Wrestling under the name Judas Devlin.
After suffering a severe hip injury, Matelson was released from WWE. In 2015, he was a contestant in the 17th season of Big Brother (2000-present). He came in fifth place. He has also appeared on Access Hollywood (1996-present) and The Price is Right (1972-present).
Matelson returned to professional wrestling on the independent circuit before joining Lucha Underground in 2016. Under the ring name Vibora, he would ring the Lucha Underground Trios Championship with Drago and Pindar.
During this time, Matelson would also win the All-Star Wrestling Tag Team Championship, the Millennium Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, and DDT Pro-Wrestling Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship.
Matelson then debuted at AEW Double or Nothing as part of the pre-show Casino Battle Royale, where he was eliminated second-to-last by “Hangman” Adam Page.
Matelson soon signed with the company under the name Luchasaurus. He then joined the Jurassic Express alongside Jungle Boy (Jack Perry) and Marko Stunt.
Soon, Luchasaurus would turn on Jurassic Express, joining Christian Cage and eventually becoming a member of The Patriarchy. He changed his name to Killswitch after Cage’s finishing move.
Cage was last seen in the ring at All In 2024, wrestling in a four-way London ladder match and helping Cage win the Casino Gauntlet Match.
In his time with AEW, Matelson has won the AEW TNT Championship, the AEW World Tag Team Championship with Jungle Boy, and the AEW World Trios Championship with Cage and Nick Wayne.
