Angel Reese jokingly bet Shaquille O’Neal $100,000 on whether he would make a free throw, as seen in a video she posted Wednesday on her Instagram Story.
That’s when O’Neal, who infamously struggled with free-throw shooting during his NBA career, sunk a shot.
Reese started laughing and cheering, while a bunch of people in the gym oohed and yelled.
“i guess i owe him $100k,” Reese, whose NIL valuation is $1.8 million per On3, wrote over the clip with a loud crying face.
Reese and O’Neal, whom she calls “uncle,” were in a gym and appeared to be filming something.
Banners that read Mount Carmel Volleyball could be seen in the video hanging in the rafters at the gym, which had a vintage appearance with brown walls.
Reese and O’Neal, who is also a LSU alum, forged a close relationship when she played for coach Kim Mulkey and the Lady Tigers — and led them to their first NCAA title in program history in a win over Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes in 2023.
O’Neal, who became president of Reebok basketball in October 2023, signed Reese as the brand’s first NIL athlete.
Reese did not also participate in shooting in the video.
The WNBA All-Star forward suffered a season-ending wrist injury in the Sky’s 92-78 victory over the Sparks last month, and underwent surgery on a fractured left wrist.
Reese missed Chicago’s last six games of the regular season.
The Sky (13-27) missed the WNBA playoffs for the first time since 2018 — and fired their first-year head coach Teresa Weatherspoon last Friday.
Reese said she was heartbroken over the decision to fire the former Liberty star in a post on social media at the time.
Despite her injury, Reese is still expected to play in the Unrivaled League, a new 3-on-3 league launched by the Liberty’s Breanna Stewart and Lynx’s Napheesa Collier, beginning in January 2025.
