Gasan Beterbiev, a bus driver, got into an accident and lost his life. At that point, Beterbiev was only 16 and was the youngest member of the household. With refugees increasing, and his father being the only income source, his siblings had to take the responsibility of leaving their endeavors and start earning for the family.

While Artur Beterbiev’s father was against boxing, his siblings never stopped him from following his passions. They were the reasons that the ‘Quebec resident’ was able to avoid the streets and focus on boxing. Artur has five siblings, and while the boxer shields the details about most of them, his eldest brother is Abdul-Beter Beterbiev, who was also involved in combat sports.

After his father’s demise, the IBF World Light Heavyweight champion was aloof for almost a year. He was still boxing but without a proper direction. A year later, he received an invitation to an Olympic boxing college in Moscow.
