Seth Rollins Reflects On Seeing Cody Rhodes’ Hell In A Cell Injury

The Hell In A Cell match between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins will go down as one of the most historic of all time, simply due to the fact that the American Nightmare had to perform with a torn pectoral muscle.

This was the third, and final, match in their premium live event series, with this being their chance to headline a show inside the steel structure, and because of that the expectations were high. But when reports began to surface that Rhodes was legitimately hurt heading into it, people were not sure what to expect.

Consider the fact that the former AEW star was still set to compete, there were question marks over whether it was a work, or if it was just a slight injury. But when he got to the ring and took off his jacket, the entire WWE Universe was put into a stunned silence as the welts on Rhodes’ chest made it crystal clear how serious the injury was.

Despite that, the two men ended up putting together an incredible main event match, with the man formerly known as Stardust being heralded with praise for his gutsy performance.

While the response from the WWE Universe to Rhodes’ problems was immediately heard in the building and seen online, Rollins was obviously in the zone, playing a character and focusing on being a heel. But during a recent interview with Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy, the former Shield star gave his thoughts on the situation.

“It was pretty gnarly,” Rollins said. “I don’t think I expected it to look like that, I’ve had some torn muscles in my day and I know that the blood seeps down, gravity just takes over but I had never seen anything like that. I remember Triple H had torn his pec some time ago at an event and shared a picture of it and it was pretty brutal but nothing like what we saw from Cody at Hell in a Cell.

“His bicep, tricep, shoulder, pec it was down to his belly button almost, it was pretty gnarly. It was definitely shocking and I think the way I felt about it was how the audience in Chicago felt,” he said. “They were just very uncomfortable for the first little bit. I think people were even wary just to cheer for him because it was so wild.”

Seth Rollins vs Cody Rhodes

Despite the injury Rhodes was still able to pick up the victory, which was his third in a row against the former Universal Champion, but the night after on Raw, Rollins got the last laugh by attacking him with a sledge hammer. Since that point, Rhodes has been off television, while Rollins is set to go one on one with Riddle at SummerSlam later this month.
