In a press conference ahead of the 2024 China Open in China, Carlos Alcaraz expressed his excitement about preparing to play alongside Rafael Nadal for Spain in the Davis Cup in November.
The world number three shared: “It’s great to have Nadal by my side. I miss him and I wish he could attend the Laver Cup. For me, it’s an honor to spend as much time as possible with Nadal.
I don’t want to think that Davis Cup is Nadal’s last tournament. I’m going to try to enjoy the time I have with him, enjoy seeing him on the court as much as possible.”
Alcaraz and Nadal teamed up in doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, although both were eliminated early. In singles in France, both lost to Novak Djokovic.
On September 23, captain David Ferrer announced that Nadal was named in the Spanish team for the 2024 Davis Cup. In addition to Nadal and Alcaraz, the list also includes Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno Busta and Marcel Granollers.
David Ferrer shared: “Nadal shared his desire to participate in the Davis Cup in Malaga with me. Everything is very easy because Nadal wanted to compete there from the beginning. We have two more months to prepare. Each player’s ability to compete will be evaluated, depending on their physical condition and the progress of the match.
We are not too worried about the court because we have performed well in the group stage. Nadal will have an upcoming friendly event with strong opponents, it is a good opportunity for him to warm up and regain his form.
The 2024 Davis Cup Finals will take place in Malaga, Spain, from November 19 to November 24. Spain will face the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, and if they advance they could face either Germany or Canada in the semi-finals. In the other bracket, defending champions Italy will face Argentina, while the United States will face Australia in the quarter-finals.
