Russian tennis player suffers health problems after US Open
Andrey Rublev is not only famous for his strong performance on the tennis court but also remembered for his habit of self-harming whenever he feels frustrated.
Rublev is a tennis player with a strong personality, often reacting to the referee, sometimes hurting himself.
At the recent Wimbledon tournament, Andrey Rublev surprised fans by hitting himself 7 times with his racket after being eliminated in the first round. However, the most shocking incident was that Rublev had just experienced a serious health warning, when he almost had to have his testicles removed.
At the end of the 2024 US Open, Rublev had to undergo emergency surgery due to serious health problems that he initially did not make public.
After much speculation, the 26-year-old tennis player finally revealed the details of the issue in a recent interview. “This problem often happens to children. I needed urgent surgery, otherwise the possibility of losing the testicle was very high. Fortunately, within the first 3-4 hours, everything went smoothly. If it had been later, from 5-6 hours, removal would have been inevitable,” Rublev said.
The incident happened very quickly, and before the surgery, Rublev even signed a paper giving doctors permission to remove his testicles if there were no other options.
“Before they started the surgery, I signed a paper giving the doctor permission to remove it if necessary. It was a difficult moment. But luckily, everything happened within the allowed time and I kept my testicle,” he recalled with humor.
Rublev shared that a strange feeling made him decide to go to the doctor. “I don’t know why, but there was a very strange feeling in my body, and I decided to go to the hospital to get checked,” he said.
Once the doctors finished examining him, they immediately took him into emergency surgery. “They performed the surgery for about 3-4 hours, and fortunately everything went smoothly,” Rublev recalled.
Thanks to the timely intervention and the talent of the medical team, Rublev avoided a serious outcome. He quickly recovered and returned to play at the Stockholm Open 2024. However, Rublev could not go far when he was eliminated in the quarterfinals by veteran Stan Wawrinka.
