Backstage News on Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes Post-Bad Blood Angle – As noted, WWE followed up on the events of Bad Blood with a major post-show angle involving Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes. After Cody and Roman Reigns successfully defeated Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu in the main event, the show also featured the return of Jimmy Uso and The Rock. However, it was a parking lot confrontation that stole the spotlight afterward.
Kevin Owens attacked Cody Rhodes, the Undisputed WWE Champion, in the parking lot. Owens had been frustrated with Cody for aligning himself with Roman Reigns during their match, especially after Cody defeated Owens a few weeks earlier at WWE Bash in Berlin. The attack escalated quickly, with fans capturing footage of the brawl, which soon went viral across social media platforms.
Security eventually intervened to separate the two men. Triple H later issued a statement via Twitter addressing the incident: “We are aware of the incident outside of the arena last night between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens. The matter will be dealt with internally.”
According to PWInsider, WWE intentionally orchestrated the parking lot angle, knowing fans would film and spread the footage online, creating a viral moment that added to the ongoing storyline between Owens and Rhodes. This strategy reflects WWE’s increasing use of fan-driven social media engagement to enhance storylines and build anticipation for future events.
The angle was also discussed on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, with Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer going through all the details on what went down with Rhodes and Owens. Though he provided no explanation for why the angle was done offscreen, Meltzer suggested it was inspired by a parking lot brawl Rhodes’ father, Dusty Rhodes, and rival Ole Anderson had back in 1979. He also believes the angle was done the way it was in order to prevent Owens from being cheered and Rhodes from being booed, creating a situation where fans would turn on Rhodes ahead of his upcoming program with The Rock.
