Bronny and LeBron joked like a father-son duo in their first Lakers Media Day together

Bronny and Lebron James, the first father-son duo in the NBA, present the Lakers with an interesting dynamic to navigate throughout this season.

On Media Day though, they just looked like a father and son throwing jokes at one another.

It started with Bronny walking up at the end of LeBron’s time speaking with the Spectrum and LeBron muttering, “Ew,” as he turned around and saw his son approaching.

Bronny hopped on the set and wasted no time clearing up his dad’s claim that he bullied him during pickup games at the Lakers facility. He said LeBron was out of bounds, so the basket shouldn’t have counted.

Bronny also wanted people to know that he got a stop on his dad/coworker later during that scrimmage. The argument devolved into the two talking over top of one another before LeBron went with the line that’ll probably be uttered all season long:

“You’re a rookie anyways.”

Point to LeBron

Show me a father who doesn’t hack his son when playing basketball and I’ll show you a liar.

It’s a right of passage and if I had a dollar every time my father hacked me during pickup games, I’d be writing this on a beach house in Santa Monica. So, yeah, I’m siding with Bronny on this one.

This first-time NBA father-son duo has led to some funny questions from people. Like, what’s the carpooling situation? Is Bronny going to hop in the car with his dad after the game and hear about all the things he could’ve done better from his pops, who is also one of the best players not only on this team but in history?

Well, Bronny cleared all that up. While his dad is a legend, he’s still his parent, which makes him kind of lame.

The Lakers rookie won’t be carpooling with his pops and actually saying, “I’d like to stay away as possible from that guy.”

There are very few instances I can relate to Bronny, but denying a car ride so I look a little cooler is one of them. I grew up in the Midwest and if the option was walk in snow, ride the train, or get a ride from my dad to work, I’d pick anything but my father.

I mean, being locked inside a vehicle in Los Angeles traffic and making small talk with your parents on your way to work sounds horrendous.

Regarding what Bronny can call Bron on the floor, the King made it clear he can’t be called dad or anything like that while doing Lakers work. Bronny didn’t bring his wit to this question but did say he’ll likely just call him Bron.

It was pretty cool to see these Lakers joking with each other, smiling with their teeth showing and talking about these moments like it was the good old days.

So long as the media stops being weird around Bronny, this father-son storyline can be a bright spot this season, regardless of what results are happening.

Days like today must make all the hoopla worth it for LeBron and Bronny. No games are happening and they can just bask in the awesomeness of making history and memories together.

They might be elite athletes and superstar millionaires and billionaires, but in the end, this is just a father-son duo working together for a family-run business, trying to find success and happiness along the way.

Doing so in Los Angeles is the icing on the cake in this made-for-reality television soap opera that is the 2024-25 Lakers.

The basketball matters most, but I can’t wait to see every moment these two have this year. Based on their Media Day interactions, it’s going to be a must-see television.
