As a nod to his dad (and favorite player of all time), Bronny will wear No. 6 for USC this season
Bronny James has finally answered an age-old question: Is his dad his favorite player of all time?
The 19-year-old son of NBA superstar LeBron James got the question for a USC Basketball promotional video, and Bronny first paused to think about his answer.
After jokingly waiting a few beats to keep his dad — and fans — sweating, Bronny said, “I’d probably say like…LeBron James or something like that,” with a smile.
Bronny’s answer provoked a laugh from his teammates who can be heard in the background of the video, shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by USC Basketball.
One user in the replies pointed out how much the freshman’s voice “sounds exactly like” his legendary father’s in the video. “Bruh sounds exactly like LeBron,” the reply said.
Another user wrote, “LBJ and Savannah – you are doing extremely well in the parent department,” in the post’s replies.
Bronny, a former Sierra Canyon high school star, is one of the most highly-anticipated college basketball debuts this year.
However, his availability for the team’s first game on Nov. 9 remains uncertain as he recovers from his cardiac arrest in July. He was later diagnosed with “an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect” and underwent surgery to correct the issue.
USC has not shared an update on Bronny’s status for the start of the season since head coach Andy Enfield told ESPN that Bronny did not participate in the team’s first practice of the season on Sept. 23.
Enfield added, “Bronny’s doing very well, but we just can’t comment on anything medically. He’s going to class and doing extremely well in school, and we’re really excited for him.”
On Oct. 19, Bronny joined his teammates for USC’s annual HoopLA event, where the players meet fans at a fun event to kick off the start of a new college basketball season.
During his entrance on the floor, Bronny danced as he came out on the court in his red and yellow Trojans jersey and sweatpants.
“@bronny hit the dougie during his Trojan HoopLA intro,” USC’s Instagram account wrote in the caption of a video showing Bronny’s dance moves.
USC Basketball will kick off their season on Nov. 9. at Galen Center when they host Cal State Bakersfield.
As a nod to his dad (and favorite player of all time), Bronny will wear No. 6 for USC this season when he does make it on the court.
LeBron, 38, briefly wore the same number as Bronny when he played for the Miami Heat in 2010, and later changed back to No. 23 when he returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014.
In May, LeBron said the day his son committed to play basketball for USC was “one of the best days of my life.”
“First of all, congratulations to Bronny on his decision he made. I’m super proud of him, our family is proud of him,” LeBron said on Spectrum SportsNet at the time. “For me personally, it’s even more special to me because it’s the first time someone out of my family to go to college. Obviously, I didn’t go to college.”
