Soccer legend David Beckham knows exactly what the relationship between athlete Travis Kelce and pop star Taylor Swift is like and he wants the best for both of them.
At the premiere of Netflix’s four-part documentary Beckham , David Beckham (48 years old) said: “There’s a lot of noise around Taylor Swift right now”, referring to the media frenzy surrounding the singer’s (33 years old) rumored relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce (33 years old).
Beckham continued: “Taylor is an amazing talent and she deserves to be happy. Whatever Taylor does and whoever she is with, as long as she is happy, that’s the most important thing.”
When asked if he had any advice for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, David Beckham gave his perspective on his marriage to fashion designer and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.
The former football star said the key to a long-lasting relationship is having time apart. “That’s the same for me and Victoria. We’ve been together for 26 years, nearly three decades. We’ve got these amazing kids, we’ve built a business, but we still make time for each other,” Beckham said. David Beckham added that he and his wife “respect each other” and both know that “you have to stick to that.”
David Beckham and Victoria got engaged a year after they met at a football match in 1997 and married on July 4, 1999. They have daughter Harper (12 years old) and three sons Cruz (18 years old), Romeo (21 years old), Brooklyn (24 years old).
The Bejeweled singer and American football star have been the talk of the celebrity world ever since Taylor Swift attended Kansas City Chiefs games to cheer for Kelce.
The couple are “still just getting to know each other,” a source told People , and another insider added that the couple has yet to define their relationship: “Travis is a charming guy. They’re more of a hangout than a date.”
Beckham, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Fisher Stevens, debuts on Netflix on October 4. The four-part series follows the English soccer star and his wife as they look at how their careers and fame have affected the family life they are building.
Director Fisher Stevens told People he was amazed by Beckham’s skills beyond soccer, including his attention to detail in life.
Stevens said: “David Beckham is always warm. He listens well, is passionate and cares a lot about people. He has incredible taste. Even though David is not an intellectual, he has an innate intelligence to be able to understand a person and read their mind.”
