Fact Check: Did Anna Kalinskaya Really Get Engaged to Jannik sinner? Debunking the Wild Rumor

Surprising revelations have swarmed the tennis world lately. However, some of them have turned out to be false rumors. Fans were only digesting Iga Swiatek‘s shocking split with his longtime coach Tomasz Wiktorowski when (drumroll) Jannik Sinner entered. The Italian superstar has been trending all summer, largely due to his ongoing doping nightmare—however this time, the rumor about the World No. 1 was for his romantic finesse.

We’ve all been caught up on Sinner and his girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya making rounds in the sport this year. The Italian player confirmed his romance with the WTA sensation in May during the French Open, emphasizing his intention to keep their private lives as they are; private. “I‘m with Anna, yes, but we keep everything very confidential, you know my confidentiality… I won’t say more,” Sinner said. Though they’ve been discreet about their public appearances, their frequent support of each other knows no bounds.

Kalinskaya spectated Sinner’s US Open triumph in person, with the couple sharing a kiss following the Italian’s glory in New York. And let’s not joke ourselves, Sinner never shied from showcasing his heartfelt side either. Before the US Open, the World No. 1 had marked his attendance at the French Open, wherein he supported his girlfriend from the stands. However, the rumor that surfaced today suggested Sinner wanted his support of Kalinskaya extended to life.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, citing the Italian publication, ‘DiPiu,’ the ATP No. 1 instilled the idea of marriage during a party in New York that was held to celebrate his victory at the USO. Irked with the looming spotlight on their private moments, Sinner discreetly whispered to the Russian: “And if to avoid all this I asked you to marry me?” In response, Kalinskaya reportedly replied, “I would tell you that I want to.” This report fueled rumors that the couple already got engaged and were planning to marry.

However, it turned out to be false news as Sinner debunked it in a press conference in Shanghai. When asked about his engagement and possible marriage, the Italian said, “It was new news also for me, to be honest (laughing). No, I didn’t ask, and nothing, nothing happened. I just read the details a little bit that it happened after the US Open, but it’s all false, false news. Thank you.”

Even Kalinskaya denied the reports. “To clarify things about fake rumors, this is not true,” she wrote in her Instagram story, and interestingly, the background music that she used was Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It). Well, it wasn’t hard to guess what she was talking about.

While these were just rumors, what’s authenticated is Sinner’s recent candid admission that he and Kalinsaya are each other’s pillars through thick and thin.

Italian ‘force to be reckoned with’ Jannik Sinner was quickly onto his next mission after bagging his second Grand Slam title in New York. The World No. 1 commenced the Asian hardcourt swing with the China Open, producing a dominating campaign to reach the event’s summit clash. During the tournament in Beijing, Sinner opened up about his brief moment of affection with Kalinskaya in New York, despite preferring to keep his private moments secret.

Recalling that moment while talking to the press, the Italian said, “It was a nice moment. We just support each other as much as we can.” This adorable support was on display in Beijing’s title decider as well, when the Russian WTA player spectated her boyfriend’s nerving clash with Carlos Alcaraz. Moreover, Kalinskaya comforted the 23-year-old with a warm hug after narrowly losing the showdown.

After enduring a heartbreaking loss in Beijing, Sinner has unpacked at the Shanghai Masters. Vying for another silverware for his shiny resume, the Italian has reached the event’s fourth round. He is now due to take the court on Tuesday, October 8.
