French Tennis Legend Declares: ‘Carlos Alcaraz Is the Next Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal!

Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz and Roger Federer

Richard Gasquet has divulged that he has “no doubt” Carlos Alcaraz will become “a new Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.”

The former world No 7 feels tennis will be in good health after the “extraordinary era” of the Big Three as he thinks Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are “raising the level” of the sport.

Alcaraz‘s immense talent and completeness has seen him compared to each of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic since his rise to the top of the game.

The 21-year-old Spaniard is already a four-time Grand Slam champion, having won the 2022 US Open, the 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon titles and the 2024 French Open.

The world No 2 will face either Nicolas Jarry or a qualifier in his first match at the Paris Masters next week. Alcaraz is aiming to win an indoor hard-court title for the first time.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have an edge on Federer, Nadal and Djokovic – Patrick Mouratoglou’s verdict

Ahead of his final Paris Masters appearance, Gasquet suggested Alcaraz and Sinner will carry tennis to new heights following the generation of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic.

“It has often been said, myself first, 25 years ago: ‘tennis will not be the same without Agassi, without Sampras, without Kuerten’. Then we had Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, an extraordinary era,” the Frenchman told the media.

“Alcaraz is not nothing. When I see him play, when I see his attitude, his level of play, it’s crazy. I tell myself that this player will be a new Federer and Nadal, I have no doubt.

“Sinner is also playing very, very well. He’s a huge player and others will come. They’re going to be the two best players in the world in the next fifteen years. They have an incredible level, they play very fast, they’re raising the level of tennis even higher.

“Djokovic is still a little bit there, but we’re going to see both of them more often. There are people in the stands and it’s going to continue like this for fifteen years for tennis. These two are going to raise the level of the sport.”

Gasquet, 38, announced earlier this month that he will retire after the 2025 French Open. The 16-time ATP title winner, who is currently ranked 133rd, will play Flavio Cobolli in the first round of the Paris Masters.
