Iga Swiatek Touches Down in Riyadh with Psychologist Daria Abramowicz for First WTA Finals Collaboration with Coach Wim Fissette

Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek has touched down in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the 2024 WTA Finals, slated from November 2 to 9. At the tournament, Swiatek will face a strong lineup in the women’s singles, with potential matchups against Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Jasmine Paolini, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Qinwen Zheng, and Barbora Krejčíková.

Ahead of her participation at the WTA Finals, she arrived in Saudi Arabia’s capital with her new coach, Wim Fissette, as they are set for their first appearance as a coach-player duo in a tournament, along with her psychologist, Daria Abramowicz.

Upon arriving in Riyadh, Iga Swiatek shared a glimpse of her arrival, posing for a photo in a white t-shirt via an Instagram story.

Iga Swiatek announced a coaching change as she teamed up with Wim Fissette, known for mentoring Naomi Osaka, Qinwen Zheng, Victoria Azarenka, and others among notable names. On October 17, she did it via her Instagram, stating:

“I’m happy to announce that Wim Fissette is joining our team. As you know, I’m preparing for the WTA Finals but my perspective is, as always, long-term, not short-term. I said many times that my career is a marathon for me, not a sprint and I’m working, operating and making decisions with this approach. I want to say that I’m very excited and looking forward to working with Wim. He seems to have a great attitude, vision and huge experience at a very top level of tennis.”

So far in 2024, Swiatek enjoyed a remarkable season by winning titles at the Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, Madrid Open, Italian Open, and French Open. Her most recent appearance was at the US Open, where she reached the quarterfinals before being defeated by Jessica Pegula, who won the match 6-2, 6-4.
