Sinner will begin his China Open title defense against Nicolas Jarry. If the Italian wins this match, he could face Jan-Lennard Struff or Stan Wawrinka in the second round. Kalinskaya has received a bye in the first round and will take on either Varvara Gracheva or Hailey Baptiste in the second round.

Jannik Sinner capped off a splendid fortnight in New York by lifting his second Grand Slam title, the 2024 US Open. He defeated Mackenzie McDonald, Alex Michelsen, Christopher O’Connell, and Tommy Paul en route to the quarterfinals. Next, he saw off Daniil Medvedev to reach the semifinals, where he got the better of Jack Draper to reach his maiden US Open final. In the summit clash, the Italian breezed past Taylor Fritz to clinch his first US Open title.

Reflecting on the result, he said, during the press conference, that it felt amazing to win a tough match.

“Yeah, amazing. Amazing feeling. Obviously it was a tough match. I felt like I was playing some good tennis from the back of the court. And, yeah, so I’m happy about today’s performance,” Sinner said.

Sinner will now gear up for the rest of the season, including defending his China Open title, Shanghai Masters and Paris Masters. The Italian has also qualified for the 2024 ATP Finals, where he would look to win the title after falling short in 2023. He was also named in Italy’s Davis Cup finals team, where Team Italy are the defending champions.
