Kendrick Lamar Question Causes Zion Williamson to Walk Off at Pelicans Media Day

Zion Williamson wasn’t interested in explaining why he didn’t listen to Kendrick Lamar’s music during the offseason.

The Pelicans star couldn’t help but laugh when a reporter asked him why the rapper’s music — specifically his songs “Euphoria” and “Not Like Us,” released in April and May, respectively — wasn’t on his offseason workout playlist.

“Jesus Christ… What made you ask that second question?” Williamson said, laughing.

“I just feel like you had two good songs you could have been playing in the gym,” the reporter replied.

“What songs would those be?” Williamson said.

“‘Euphoria’ and ‘Not Like Us.’ I’m trying to understand… where was the greatness of the summer in your tracklist? I’m confused,” the reporter said.

“I hear you. But you know, you’re entitled to your opinion,” Williamson replied. “I’m entitled to mine. But saying that, c’mon, it’s Kendrick Lamar. Like, I really gotta sit up here and talk about how good of an artist he is?”

That’s when Williamson walked off, ending his press conference.

The reporter asked the question as a follow-up to another reporter, who previously asked Williamson what he was listening to over the summer to get ready for the upcoming season.

“I feel like I’ve kind of been all over [with music],” Williamson said before naming a few artists and songs, including “Ready to Die” by Notorious B.I.G. and Nas ‘ Illmatic, as well as rappers Larry June and Currensy.

“A lot of Currensy. I feel when I started training, I feel like Currensy was heavy in the mix,” he said of the artist, who is also a New Orleans native.

This wasn’t the only viral moment that came out of media day across the NBA.

Bucks star Damian Lillard was asked by a reporter about when GloRilla shot her shot with him during the NBA All-Star festivities in February.

“I keep my personal life personal and I let it be that,” Lillard, who went through a public divorce with his his ex, Kay’La in Oct. 2023, said.

“I respect her as an artist. We know each other. She’s an artist. I’m an artist.”
