The Los Angeles Lakers just ended the NBA Preseason with one of the biggest losses between any NBA team this season.
With all five starters out, the Lakers were soundly defeated by the Golden State Warriors, who were nearly full except for Stephen Curry, 132-74. Not counting the NBA team’s friendlies against guest teams like the New Zealand Breakers, it was the biggest preseason game of the year.
However, winning or losing in friendly matches like this doesn’t mean much. Especially for LeBron’s son Bronny James, who put aside his mental problems and played quite well against Golden State.
In 35 minutes of play and starting from the start, Bronny scored 17 points with 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block against a strong Warriors lineup.
Before entering the final presaeson match on October 19, the 20-year-old rookie defender had encountered countless difficulties in the last 5 friendly matches.
Bronny James had just 8 points through 5 games, 4-20 FG with 5 turnovers and no 3-pointers (0-7 3PT). But in the final game, everything changed.
Being in the starting lineup has boosted the spirit and confidence of the player selected with the 55th round of the 2024 NBA Draft. Bronny is aggressive, actively competing and not afraid to collide to finish.
In the second quarter, LeBron James’ son finally “opened the barrel” with his first 3-pointer in this year’s preseason.
Sharing after the match, the eldest son in the LeBron James family said he was very happy to have relieved the psychological pressure.
“ I was really happy and relieved to be able to go out there and just think about playing and enjoying the game. I didn’t think much about it, just let everything happen naturally,” Bronny told reporters.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick added: “I’m happy for Bronny and the other young players on the team. Every game, good or bad, is an experience that helps them become more mature in their careers.
The positive thing is that my young players are always enthusiastic in training and working hard. I believe in them and their future in the tournament. For Bronny, getting 17 points today will help a lot.”
Bronny James’ preseason story is quite similar to what he experienced in the Summer League in July, where the player born in 2004 did not have a good finishing feel in the first few games before “opening the barrel” in the last two games.
“Whether I play first team or not, or even go down to the G-League, this last preseason game has given me a lot of confidence. Hopefully I can maintain that no matter where I’m trusted to play,” Bronny James concluded.
