Michael Jordan on Former Coach Doug Collins: “What’s the matter, you son of a bitch! Did he lie to me?

He reproached Doug Collins to his face when he crossed paths with him at the recent Hall of Fame Awards Gala

Michael Jordan's response to his former coach: "What's up, dog? You told a bunch of lies about me"

Michael Jordan attended the recent Naismith Hall of Fame awards gala and met Doug Collins, his Bulls coach in his third NBA season.

The two had three seasons together in Chicago in which they did not win the title. In fact, Jordan did not win his first ring until 1991 in his seventh season as a professional.

The fact is that it had been a long time since the two had seen each other and apparently the greatest player of all time had a debt pending with his former coach, who is currently 73 years old. Air’ and Collins gave each other a warm embrace when they crossed paths, after which the former laughingly accused the latter of lying abouthim. “What’s up, dog, what’s going on? I know he did it. He told a bunch of lies about me. I know he told you a bunch of lies,” Jordan told him to his face.

It was 1986 when Collins became head coach of the Chicago Bulls and, despite not winning a ring, they were quite successful together. Under him Jordan won his first playoff series in 1988. He then led the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals the following year, where they lost to the Detroit Pistons in six games.

Three seasons together and no rings

Collins was fired after that season, and Jordan reportedly didn’t like that the franchise did without him. In the three seasons they shared he was MVP of the season (1988) and best defender in the NBA (1988), in addition to being included those three years in the best NBA team of the year.
