After rolling his ankle not once but twice during Monday’s game against the LA Clippers, Stephen Curry has been ruled out by the Golden State Warriors.
According to the announcement from the team, Curry has sprained his left ankle and will sit out at least the next two games of the Warriors. The team captain will be re-evaluated for his condition this weekend and will likely return to the field next week.
Stephen Curry suffered an injury in the first home game of the new season, hosting the LA Clippers at Chase Center.
In the third quarter, Curry sprained his left ankle and was immediately taken to the bench for evaluation. After some light exercises with the medical team, he returned to the field at the beginning of the fourth quarter. But Stephen sprained his left ankle again and this time, he appeared to be in a lot of pain and was helped back to the locker room.
Without the “chef” at the crucial moment, Golden State narrowed the gap from 13 points to just 1 point. However, that was not enough and the Warriors lost to the LA Clippers at home with a score of 104-112.
After the game, head coach Steve Kerr updated that Curry’s injury was not too serious.
When the MRI scan came back the next day, the Warriors captain added: “The results we have are quite positive. The important thing is that there is no noticeable damage to Curry’s ankle.”
This season, Stephen Curry has not really exploded through the first 3 games of the season. He is averaging 18.3 points, 6.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game, shooting 40.7% from long range.
Although Curry’s injury brings many worries to Warriors fans, the good news is that the 36-year-old captain will not have to rest for too long and is not seriously injured.
Having a fairly thick squad and rotating all 12 players in several matches of the season, the Golden State Warriors suddenly lost 3 important pillars: Stephen Curry, De’Anthony Melton and Andrew Wiggins.
Melton, a summer signing for Golden State, is currently sidelined with a back injury. Andrew Wiggins is also struggling with a back strain after a few games to start the new season.
Without both Curry and Melton, the Golden State Warriors’ point guard position will be very thin. Ball-carrying duties will likely return to Draymond Green and Kyle Anderson.
In addition, young defender Brandin Podziemski will also be trusted and increase his playing minutes during Curry’s absence.
