Novak Djokovic Hints at Australian Open Being His Favorite Slam: ‘I Like Kangaroos’—Neymar Weighs In!

Novak Djokovic has seen it all. And you thought touring the world aiming to script newer records would say anything different? Not for the Serbian; he is staying strong despite his biggest rivals drawing the curtains on their legacy. However, the Serb cast doubts on his future in the sport after making a worrisome decision; nevertheless, his latest candid admission while talking to a football star might put uneased souls to rest.

After bagging the elusive Olympic gold at the Games in Paris, Djokovic’s rich vein of form suffered a mild drop. His US Open campaign bore no fruition, and later, he was unable to overpower World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the Shanghai Masters title decider. While fans were waiting for Nole to return with a blast, he flipped the tables and emotionally addressed missing his family due to year-long touring commitments, hinting at signs of retirement. Fueling the mystery, Djokovic announced skipping next week’s Paris Masters, leaving his attendance at the ATP Finals in jeopardy. But Nole isn’t looking to leave just yet, or at least his love for a hardcourt Slam can do the talking for him.

Seated with Brazilian star Neymar Jr. for an interesting questionnaire, the 32-year-old was presented with a series of known facts about the 24-time Grand Slam champion. When asked about Nole’s favorite Major, Neymar was hilariously clueless when the former dropped a hint for him, saying, “I like Kangaroos.” Realizing the animal’s origin place, the Al Hilal midfielder promptly stated “Sydney” in response. Technically the incorrect answer, however, it put into perspective what the Australian Open meant for the Serbian. Djokovic has won in Melbourne a record-breaking 10 times—a feat he wishes to extend in 2025 at his favored hunting ground, or so his subtle remark iterated.

Despite falling short of a few quests, Djokovic is on an all-high. After downing archrival Rafael Nadal in the duo’s last-ever battle at the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Riyadh, the Spaniard superstar highlighted that Nole is “the best” player ever. Not so much for retirement now, is there? Moreover, the former World No. 1 vowed not to bow out unless he ran out of asphalt.

Serbian star Novak Djokovic isn’t one to shy away from challenges. The 37-year-old, more often than always, has made things hard for the young-gen players. While Nole hasn’t backtracked much, his recent showdowns against Jannik Sinner haven’t reaped triumphant results. Twice he lost to the Italian sensation—in Shanghai and days later, in the Six Kings Slam’s semifinal. However, Nole is determined to quash pessimism stemming from such losses.

After losing the contest, Djokovic highlighted that “Maybe some people think I should retire with the Olympic gold on a high. Others, on the contrary, think I should keep going as long as I’m a candidate for the Grand Slams. I’m leaning towards the latter. Maybe I’ll change my mind soon, but now I feel like I want to keep going. I feel sorry for those who want me to retire, but I still have some time left.”

As for his next appearance, Djokovic will likely take to the courts in Turin to defend his title. After claiming his record-breaking seventh crown, it will be intriguing to see whether the Serb finds it fitting to better his record or spend quality time with family for the remaining calendar.
