Novak Djokovic outlines his new ‘main focus’ for the rest of his career

Novak Djokovic has produced a spectacular tennis career but he still has some main goals in mind as he continues his twilight phase.

In August, the Serbian achieved one of his last remaining goals in tennis which was to win the Olympic gold medal.

In what was a spectacular match, Djokovic outlasted Carlos Alcaraz 7-6, 7-6 to achieve his dream of becoming Olympic champion.

But despite winning all of tennis’ big titles, Novak Djokovic is still incredibly driven and hungry for more success as he continues to build on his great legacy.

Djokovic has won 99 ATP titles and holds numerous records on the ATP Tour such as having more Grand Slams than any other male player.

He also has spent more weeks at World number one than anyone else and is the only man to win every major at least three times.

Anyone would understand if Djokovic loses motivation to play given all his accomplishments, but there are still two things that drive and inspire him to keep playing.

“My main focus is the Slams and playing for my country, that’s really what drives me the most,” Djokovic told the Shanghai masters YouTube channel.

“Of course it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to play Masters, probably not all of them in a season, but I’ll work around my schedule for next season.

“Then I’ll see you know where it fits my professional schedule and my private life, family life schedule and pick and choose where I want to play and what drives me, motivates me and also the tournaments that also help build the right trajectory of preparation for the Grand Slams.”

Djokovic is entering the final portion of the season in a somewhat unfamiliar position.

He is ranked number four in the world and has yet to secure his spot at the ATP Finals in November, where he is the champion.

Djokovic is currently ninth in the ATP’s ‘Race to Turn’ standings, 310 points behind Andrey Rublev in seventh position and 35 behind Alex de Minaur in eighth.

The former World number one is set for important Shanghai Masters that could determine whether he qualifies for the season-ending championships or not.

If Djokovic does not make it to the ATP Finals in 2024, it will be the first time the event will take palace without him since 2017.
