Novak Djokovic reacts on social media after playing tennis on the Great Wall of China ahead of the Shanghai Masters

Novak Djokovic has prepared for the Shanghai Masters in a rather unique way after playing tennis on the Great Wall of China.

Djokovic has played just once since his early US Open shock against Alexei Popyrin, representing Serbia at the Davis Cup.

But the 24-time Grand Slam winner still has a busy schedule ahead, with Djokovic set to play in the Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia.

First, however, the Serbian has the Asian swing to think about, and he is among the big names taking part in the Shanghai Masters.

The draw has already been made, with the 37-year-old opening against either Bu Yunchaokete or Alex Michelsen.

He has firstly, however, taken part in an event hosted by Lacoste on the Great Wall of China, where Djokovic hit some balls with Chinese actor Wang Yibo.

The latter clearly enjoyed the experience, writing on Instagram after: “I’m truly honoured and delighted to have played tennis with an Olympic champion at the iconic Great Wall!

“Big thanks to Lacoste, and thank you Nole! I’m already looking forward to our next match, will keep training hard and play big.”

Djokovic was quick to comment, saying: “Pleasure to play with you on Great Wall of China. Looking forward to hosting you on one of my matches soon.”

Djokovic will be eyeing a strong finish to the year after frustratingly missing out on a Grand Slam title in 2024.

Remarkably, that is the first time he has suffered that fate since 2017, although the Serbian did still manage to win an Olympic gold medal this summer.

He now has the chance for further silverware in Shanghai, an event he has won on four occasions, more than any other player.

Djokovic has never failed to make the quarter-finals in his previous nine attempts, with another spot in the latter stages certainly on the cards.

He should be in high spirits going into the event after the special event at the Ju Yong Guan pass in Beijing, one of the best-preserved passes on the Great Wall of China.
