The tennis star reimagined one of her iconic looks from 20 years ago
Serena Williams is taking a (fashionable) trip down memory lane!
On Monday, Sept. 2, the tennis star, 42, shared photos from the launch of one of her latest Wyn Beauty line product, while recreating a look from her past.
In the Instagram carousel, the pro athlete wore a denim set — which consisted of a cropped short sleeve jacket with a white shirt underneath and a pleated mini skirt.
“This skirt looks familiar – oh that’s me in the background. Yup, that was my inspiration for this look to launch @wyn new lipgloss and lip liner with @ultabeauty #USOpen,” Williams captioned the post.
The throwback photo she referenced was seen in the background of her post as she stood beside her older sister Venus Williams, 44. The picture was taken 20 years ago during the 2004 U.S. Open for Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at Arthur Ashe Tennis Stadium in New York.
On that day, the then-22-year-old Serena wore a Nike set and shoes.
“I had the best time launching @wyn new lip liner and lip gloss 🫦 with @ultabeauty … in those jeans,” she captioned another launch post, in part, on Monday.
“Denim on denim has never looked this good 🤩🤩🤩,” Wyn added in the comment section.
In late July, the mother of two spent some quality time with her daughter Olympia, 6, who was seen putting on lipgloss from her mom’s brand Wyn Beauty (pronounced “win”) as they watched the 2024 Paris Olympics with each other.
Serena — who also shares daughter Adira River, 1 with her husband Alexis Ohanian — snapped a picture of her eldest wearing a floral pink dress from Ivy City Co. as she applied the lipgloss.
Wyn reshared that video on their Instagram Stories at the time, adding “Not Olympia testing out our new formula samples in Paris 🎾👀☺️ are we approved miss @olympiaohanian?”
In April, Serena spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about the inspiration behind Wyn Beauty.
“I’ve always been into beauty,” she said during the interview. “But when you’re a tennis player, there’s only so much that you can do because you’re out there on the court for hours. You move and sweat a lot, and you wipe everything away.”
She added that for her “entire career,” she’s always tried to figure out, “What are those key products you need to look presentable?”
Serena found her solution in Wyn Beauty, which started with 10 products created with active lifestyles in mind.
She added that her career also played a role in the branding.
“I thought the tennis ball green packaging, which we call our Wyn chartreuse, made sense and is authentic to my story. [The color] represents a lot of energy to me when you’re holding it in your hands. It means a lot to me because I will always love tennis,” Serena exclusively told PEOPLE.
