Sinner Makes History with Unprecedented Record in Battle Against Djokovic

(Sports news, tennis news) Jannik Sinner excellently defeated Novak Djokovic 7-6(4), 6-3 at Shanghai Masters 2024, achieving an unprecedented feat by not allowing his opponent to create any breaks.

Convincing victory in Shanghai

Jannik Sinner continued his impressive run of form with a win over Novak Djokovic in the final of the 2024 Shanghai Masters.

With a 7-6(4), 6-3 victory, the Italian tennis player created an unprecedented feat in tennis history when he defeated Djokovic without facing any break points in two consecutive encounters.

Sinner is the youngest player to win the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai since the tournament’s inception in 2009. It is also his fourth Masters 1000 title. With this victory, he has a total of seven titles in 2024, including two Grand Slams, three Masters 1000s and three ATP 500s.

Created a miracle that no one has ever done when facing Djokovic

The victory over Djokovic in Shanghai was made all the more impressive by the fact that Sinner did not allow his opponent to gain a single break point, something he also did in the semi-finals of the 2024 Australian Open. To defeat the Serb, who is considered one of the best returners in history without facing a break, is an incredible achievement.

Sinner has won the last three meetings with Djokovic, bringing the head-to-head record to 4-4. After losing the first three meetings, Sinner stunned the Serb by winning four of the last five. Notably, this winning streak began in the 2023 Davis Cup final, where Sinner saved three match points to beat Djokovic in three sets.

In the post-match press conference, Sinner shared his special feelings on the important match day: “It’s difficult to rank the achievements, but today was a special day for many reasons. With Roger Federer, Carlos Alcaraz, and Juan Carlos Ferrero in the stands, the atmosphere was great. Playing against Novak in a final is always difficult, but I’m very happy because I handled the situation well and won this trophy.”

He also said that the season is not over yet and he will continue to improve his form: “There are still a few tournaments left in the season, but I am very proud of what I have done and hope to continue to improve.”

With an impressive record of 65 wins and only 6 losses in 2024, Sinner is proving himself to be the best tennis player in the world, making it even more reasonable that the Italian is officially the number 1 tennis player of the year.
