(Sports news, tennis news) Jannik Sinner, had an extremely successful 2024 season, won his first Grand Slam title and ended the year as the top player.
Jannik Sinner’s amazing season
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is currently in his 19th week at the top of the ATP rankings. Jannik has been one of the dominant figures in men’s tennis this year, winning 65 of his 71 matches. He has won 7 ATP titles, including 5 majors (2 Grand Slams, 3 ATP 1000s).
Alcaraz (right) held the world number 1 position at the end of 2022, in 2023 it belonged to Djokovic and in 2024 this title belonged to Sinner (left).
The Italian opened up a staggering 4,800 ATP points lead over his nearest rival, Carlos Alcaraz, securing Sinner the year-end world No. 1 title and a further several weeks in 2025.
Jannik will reach 20 weeks on top of the tennis legend Mats Wilander on October 21. There is a high possibility that Jannik will continue to hold this position even after the 2024 Australian Open, even though he has to defend 2,000 ATP points.
The tennis player from San Candido (Italy) will continue to stand above Alcaraz if he remains at the top of the rankings until early February 2025, and this scenario is almost certain.
First Grand Slam title and perfect start to 2024 season
Entering the 2024 season, Sinner was one of the top contenders to win the Australian Open. He proved it on the court, winning his first Grand Slam title at the age of 22. In the semifinals, Sinner defeated 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic, defeating the legend in four tense sets.
In the final against Daniil Medvedev, Sinner had to struggle to lose the first two sets, but then he successfully came back with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, thereby inscribing his name into the temple of tennis legends.
After his Australian Open win, Sinner continued his impressive run of form in Rotterdam and Miami, but was defeated by Alcaraz in the semi-finals of Indian Wells. Despite an injury in Madrid, Sinner maintained his form to return to world number one.
In recent weeks, Sinner has closed the race for the world No. 1 position by winning the championship in Shanghai, and overcoming Djokovic (semi-final) once again. With what he is showing and his confidence against “The Djoker”, the Italian tennis player has affirmed that he deserves to lead the world tennis village in the rankings.
Most recently, Sinner won 2-1 against Djokovic in the semi-finals after 2 hours and 27 minutes (set score: 6-2, 6-7, 6-4), thereby registering his name in the final of the Six Kings Slam tournament.
